The V80-2.0 MW
The Q7 windpark requires the use of proven technology because its 60 wind turbines are located further off the coast (23 kilometres) and at a deeper level (19 to 24 metres) than any other offshore windpark. Partly for these reasons, the V80-2.0 MW from Vestas has been selected because of its solid offshore and onshore track record. As a result, the wind farm can run virtually continuously.
To prevent turbine interaction as much as possible, the guidelines stipulate that the turbines should be separated by a distance of at least 5 times their rotor diameter. In the case of Q7, this amounts to 400 metres (5 times 80 metres). To minimise turbine interaction, the 60 turbines have been separated by a distance of 550 metres.
The turbines will start revolving at a wind speed of approximately 3 m/s. The turbines will be switched off in the event of a wind speed of 25 m/s, since this would increase the turbine load disproportionately, thus limiting the life span of the turbines. In loaded condition, the turbine makes between 9 and 19 revolutions per minute.
